T-Mobile's two paid unlimited plans, Experience More and Experience Beyond, include free high-speed data abroad: 5GB and 15GB respectively, in 215+ countries and destinations, before dropping to a throttled 256kbps for the rest of the billing cycle. The cheaper Essentials plan gets none of that. It includes unlimited texting abroad and nothing else: calls cost $0.50 a minute, and there is no included data at all.

T-Mobile renamed its whole plan lineup on 22 April 2025: Magenta and Go5G became Essentials, Experience More and Experience Beyond, and the international allotments carried over under the new names. So a support page or an old receipt that still says Magenta MAX is describing what is now called Experience More, at the same 5GB.

What each plan includes abroad

The free international allotment depends entirely on which plan a line is on, and it resets every billing cycle rather than carrying over. T-Mobile publishes the current figures, as of August 2026, on its own international roaming page:

What 256kbps feels like once the free data runs out

256kbps is not a rounding error. It is roughly the speed of 2G EDGE, the connection a phone reports as the letter E, which most networks have kept only as the rung below 3G and 4G rather than as a real tier anyone plans around.

Messages go through and a plain web page will load, slowly. Maps will not keep up while moving, streaming will not start, and a photo upload will spin until the app gives up. That is the ceiling on Experience More and Experience Beyond once the free 5GB or 15GB is spent, for whatever remains of the billing cycle.

When the free allotment, or Essentials’s zero allotment, is not enough, T-Mobile sells an International Pass add-on that works on any plan. As of August 2026, T-Mobile's International Pass page lists three tiers, priced by data and by time rather than by country:

1 day: 2GB of high-speed data and unlimited calling, $10.
10 days: 15GB of high-speed data and unlimited calling, $50, T-Mobile’s own “most popular” pick.
30 days: 30GB of high-speed data and unlimited calling, $75.

Priced per gigabyte that works out to $5, $3.33 and $2.50, so the 30-day pass is the cheapest gigabyte T-Mobile sells even for a trip far shorter than 30 days, provided it is bought to end when the trip does rather than a month early.

When a travel eSIM is worth comparing

None of T-Mobile’s numbers change with the destination. A traveller in a country with strong roaming partners and one in a country with thin agreements pay the same $50 for the same 15GB, and get whatever speed T-Mobile has negotiated with whichever network picks up the phone there, full speed on a good partner, or something closer to 256kbps on a poor one.

A travel eSIM prices the destination instead of the plan, and its data does not depend on which T-Mobile tier the line is normally on or how much of this month’s free allotment is already gone. Compare eSIM plans for the destination before assuming either option is the cheaper one.
