What do I do when the data on my South Korea eSIM is used up?

It’s good to have a data plan that’s perfect for your trip. But don’t worry if you run out of data even before your trip ends. As mentioned before, one of the advantages of South Korea eSIM is that you can order it regardless of your location.

This means that you can order another data plan at short notice if you realize that the planned one will not be sufficient. After all, it can always happen that you have to apply for things due to unexpected events or have to discuss a lot with your family at home.

My phone is not compatible with the South Korea eSIM - is there an alternative?

Too bad… If you found out that your current phone is not compatible with the eSIM, don’t worry yet. There are other internet alternatives for South Korea.

SIM Card

Various providers send the traditional South Korea prepaid SIM cards to your home before you leave. There are almost unlimited options available with different durations.

For the sake of completeness, we also mention the other alternatives for Internet in South Korea. For us, these options are less of an option, but they may be just right for your needs.

Pocket WiFi

The Pocket WiFis are portable WiFi routers, which are especially well-known in Asia. You can connect several devices at the same time, just like with a normal router. However, you always have another bulky device in your luggage, which has to be recharged after 13 hours of runtime.

Public WiFi

It is definitely the cheapest option, but it must be clearly mentioned here that you are not allowed to enter any personal information, transactions or passwords while you are connected to a public WiFi.

The networks are rather insecure and many hackers use this to their advantage. We do check Instagram from time to time if we happen to come across a public wifi during our trip. However, we only use this as a supplement to the South Korea eSIM.

Roaming

Almost everyone knows someone, or was perhaps ready to be someone, who came home unsuspecting and found an incredibly high phone bill at home after a relaxing vacation. Since you can quickly and unintentionally get rid of half a fortune here, we clearly advise against roaming as an Internet option.

Holiday in South Korea

In South Korea, which is located in East Asia on the Korean peninsula, the tourism industry has steadily developed into an important economic factor over the past ten years.

Great wealth of cultural monuments

During a vacation in South Korea, visitors to the country can get to know a large number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Among them are 40 perfectly preserved tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, founded in 1392, which can be found around the capital Soeul.

In the city of Suwon, the Hwaseong Fortress, surrounded by a wall more than five kilometers long, has been faithfully restored to its original state. Another example is the Changdeokgung Palace in Soeul, whose showpiece is its secret garden.

Interesting city trips

Many trips to South Korea pass through some of the most worth seeing cities of this country. Soeul impresses its visitors with numerous old palaces, modern shopping malls and traditional markets. Yongin shows up amidst beautiful scenic surroundings, in which the Korean Folklore Village and an amusement park are embedded.

Other cities worth visiting include Daegu, the beautiful port city of Tongyeong, and Gyeongju, blessed with historic buildings and sites. The latter was the capital of the Silla Empire until the 10th century.

Later it fell into a slumber, but in the past 80 years archaeologists have discovered immeasurable treasures and the exposed temples, stone pagodas, royal tombs and ruins of fortresses are now one of the biggest tourist attractions in South Korea.

South Korea's Buddhist Cultural Heritage

A vacation in South Korea promises in any case the direct contact with the ancient Buddhist cultural heritage. Not only that the partly in mountain forests hidden lonely temples, high pagodas and countless smaller to huge Buddha statues made of stone, wood or marble impress the visitors of the country – it is also made possible for them to experience a temple stay itself.

Thereby they can participate in the ceremonies and may experience the performed rites very closely.

The vacation island Jejudo

Off the southwest coast of the Korean peninsula lies Jejudo Island, which consists of lava rock. It is overlooked by an extinct volcano almost 2000 meters high.

Its sunny and exceptionally mild climate, beautiful bays, an almost independent culture and impressive sights have made this island a subtropical vacation paradise that attracts not only nature lovers but also many water sports enthusiasts and beach vacationers.
